On October 8, 2012, President of AUB Dr. Peter Dorman and VP of Medical Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Mohamed H. Sayegh signed an MOU with New Mazloum Hospital (NMH) to establish the Mamdouha El-Sayed Cancer Center of Tripoli (MSCC). Dr. Wajih Mazloum, Chairman of the Board of Directors, signed the MOU on behalf of NMH in the presence of Mr. Farouk El-Sayed, Director of Elmer and Mamdouha Bobst Foundation, representing AUB Trustee Randa El-Sayed Haffar.

Through the generous donation of the Bobst Foundation, AUBMC will cooperate with NMH to establish a state-of-art Ambulatory Cancer Center in Tripoli. The center represents the first project of its kind, through which AUBMC will expand the provision of quality care to needy cancer patients in a comprehensive outpatient setup. MSCC will mainly serve people living in North Lebanon and will provide high quality comprehensive radiotherapy and oncology services, similar to those provided at AUBMC.

The Center is expected to open in April 2014. A committee including staff from New Mazloum Hospital, External Medical Affairs, Program & Space Planning Unit at AUB’s FM, and AUBMC will be formed in order to supervise the entire initiation process and lead the center to a successful opening and proper operation.

AUBMC will provide and supervise the clinical services as well as the educational and research activities of the center in collaboration with NMH.  The center will be operated by NMH and its staff will be employed by NMH.

Major equipment required for the center will include among others: a Linear Accelerator, Pet CT Scan, and MRI (1.5 tesla), Mammography, and Ultrasound.

This unique triad cooperation between AUBMC, Bobst Foundation, and NMH will embark on a special endeavor that will improve the lives of people in the North of Lebanon, so that they may have live and have it more abundantly.
