The Department of Psychiatry welcomed a new Faculty Member: Wael Shamseddine, M.D., Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry on October 1st, 2017 and Ms. Hala Naffah, psychologist on November 3rd, 2017
Wael Shamseddeen, M.D. completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics (1999) and Doctorate of Medicine (2003), and Masters in Public Health (2004) at the American University of Beirut. After a one-year internship in Internal Medicine at AUBMC, Dr. Shamseddeen completed a residency training in General Psychiatry at Rosalind Franklin University, North Chicago (2012) and a 2-year Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Michigan (2014) and was certified to perform electro-convulsive therapy. For the past 3 years, Dr. Shamseddeen was an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan where was practicing both Child/Adolescent & Adult Psychiatry. Dr. Shamseddeen’s research focuses on treatment and prevention of relapse of mood disorders, and impact of stress, trauma, & grief on mental health particularly among adolescents. As a faculty member within the Department of Psychiatry at AUBMC, Dr. Shamseddeen will see both pediatric and adult patients in the Specialty Clinics and OPD. He will be involved in teaching residents and fellows and will contribute to the research mission of the Department of Psychiatry.
Hala Naffah, M.A. graduated in 2014 with a Master of Arts degree in psychology from AUB. She completed clinical psychology training program with emphasis on adult psychotherapy at AUBMC from 2012-2014. She completed a postgraduate certificate in cognitive behavioral therapy for psychological trauma at the University of Oxford from 2015-2016. She will be involved in the outpatient specialty clinics and inpatient psychiatry unit.
