The OPD at AUBMC has been playing a prominent role in providing medical care for all people in Lebanon and the region. Patients are treated to the highest standards of quality medical care at minimal fees. Needy patients may be referred to the Social Services Department.
The OPD includes the following specialties: internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics/adolescence, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, dermatology, and family medicine. The OPD also supports the educational and clinical training of medical students and house-staff (residents and fellows) within the ambulatory health system. In addition, the department collaborates with the AUB School of Nursing and the Lebanese American University (LAU) Pharmacy to facilitate the training of their students.Catering to the needs of patients on a daily basis are attending physicians with residents and fellows, along with a cadre of nursing staff. The OPD offers a unique opportunity for third-year medical students to have their own patients and to follow up with them. The student is normally assigned a new patient whom s/he attends to, performing a physical examination and a detailed history before presenting the findings to the attending physician on a one-on-one basis. Patients, then, return for follow-up and continuity of care. This process not only creates a strong relationship between the student-physician team and the patient, but it also leaves an indelible mark on the students who value one of their first experiences in patient care.Admission Procedures and Charge
