Overview
The Clinical and Professional Development Center (CPDC) is the continuing education and training center of the Nursing Services Department. CPDC maintains commitment to excellence and promotes the professional development of nurses and other healthcare providers through the provision of high quality continuing education and training opportunities. Its ultimate goal is to improve healthcare providers' performance and foster professional growth, thereby advancing the nursing profession and the quality of care in Lebanon and the region.
Scope of ServicesCPDC scope of services includes:
- Transition Programs for New Nurses at All Levels and Settings (Orientation, Preceptorship, Mentorship, and Nursing Professional Development Programs)
- Planning, Implementing, and Evaluating Educational Offerings
- Training and Development
- Competency Assessment
- Training on New Equipment, Policies, and Procedures
- Conducting Clinical Rounds: Integrating Clinical Education into Practice
- Coordination of Nurse Visitors and Students Training at AUBMC
CPDC aims to be a referral center for continuing nursing education and professional development of healthcare providers in Lebanon and the region through achieving and maintaining national and international accreditation.
ANCC Accredited Provider StatusCPDC has received accreditation as a provider unit for continuing nursing education by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC) since 2005 and was re-accredited in 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019 for four years. In 2015 and 2019, CPDC was awarded accreditation with distinction, the highest recognition as a provider unit for nursing continuing professional development by ANCC. CPDC is the only in Lebanon, the first in the region and the second in the world outside the United States to be designated an ANCC accredited provider status.
ANCC Recognized Nursing Skills Competency Programs In 2009, the ANCC Nursing Skills Competency Program: Administration of Chemotherapy was accredited for the first time. In 2011, and after integrating the recommendations of the participants, the ANCC Nursing Skills Competency Program: Administration of Chemotherapy was revised and re-accredited for the second time by ANCC. In 2015 and 2018, The Nursing Skills Competency Course “Administration of Chemotherapy and Biotherapy" has been re-accredited and recognized for three years that expires March 2021. In 2017, CPDC has initiated another recognized ANCC Nursing Skills Competency Program: Central Venous Access Devices Handling and Care that was recognized again in August 2020 for three years.
International CertificationsCPDC is also an internationally recognized center of communication with the Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. to allow candidates in various fields in Lebanon and the region to get professional international certifications.
CPDC ResourcesCPDC is supported by a team of expert nurses functioning as nurse leader for research, education, and innovation, nurse training and development manager, clinical educators, and specialty certified clinical nurse specialists. Clinical educators maintain clinical competence, enhance professional practice, and support the achievement of career goals of nurses. Clinical educators plan educational offerings as per a recognized need utilizing a variety of up-to-date teaching strategies to assist nurses and healthcare providers acquire the knowledge and skills to provide excellent quality of care. Clinical nurse specialists are credentialed in their specialty areas from prestigious professional nursing organizations in the United States. They offer specialized training and education in cardiovascular, adult health, critical care, adult oncology, and pain.
CPDC is distinguished for its high quality educational offerings in a well-equipped facility utilizing a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies including simulation and using live, web-based, and blended learning.
Educational Offerings CPDC hosts a variety of continuing education and training offerings that target nurses working in different domains such as education, leadership, clinical practice, research and evidence-based practice in medical-surgical, oncology, critical care, neuroscience, cardiovascular, pediatrics, obstetrics, and ambulatory areas. These programs aim at assisting nurses and healthcare providers acquire more knowledge, skills, and abilities that transform them from novice to expert. Additionally, these offerings help nurses develop their psychomotor abilities that lead them to provide high quality care for patients in Lebanon and the region.
