For the second year in a row, the American University of Beirut (AUB) has ranked among the world’s 300 elite universities in the field of medicine. The ranking has been determined based on the 2016 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject. Subject rankings have become the greatest influence on those choosing to study in a certain university, and with the 2016 ranking, AUB continues to provide a unique robust experience combining education and research.

“The tremendous achievement puts us on the global map, not only in Lebanon and the region but amongst the top notch universities worldwide. Without the hard work and dedication of our faculty, nurses, and students we could not have acclaimed such an accomplishment,” stated Executive VP for Medicine and Global Strategy and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Mohamed H. Sayegh. “This new ranking today is another attestation of our continuous efforts to attain our 2020 Vision. I would like to thank our staff for bringing this honor to our beloved institution,” he added.

Founded in 1990, QS Quacquarelli Symonds is the leading global provider of higher education and careers information, independent research and solutions. Its mission is to enable motivated people around the world to fulfill their potential by fostering international mobility, educational achievement and career development and  provide services at each key career stage; first degree, Masters, PhD, MBA, and Executive-level.
The QS ranking is one of the most highly regarded global university ranking systems. It includes universities from over 140 nations and evaluates them based on their academic peer reviews, the number of citations the university receives and the international student and staff ratio, among other things. The 2016 QS Ranking by Subject ranks the world’s top universities in 42 individual subject areas.

The QS World University Ranking rates universities by subject on academic and employer surveys, in addition to faculty research. The annual subject rankings are based on surveyed opinions of 85,062 academics and 41,910 employers, alongside analysis of 17.3 million research papers and over 100 million citations.  The annual subject rankings are based on surveyed opinions of 85,062 academics and 41,910 employers, alongside analysis of 17.3 million research papers and over 100 million citations.

The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) became the first Medical Center in Lebanon and the fourth in the World to receive institutional accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I) in 2014.

AUBMC is the first and only medical institution in the Middle East to have earned the four international accreditations of Joint Commission International (JCI), Magnet (twice), The College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I) attesting to its superior standards in patient-centered care, nursing, and pathology/laboratory services.
