On May 15th, AUBMC celebrated the inauguration of the Dr. Fadlo and Maya Abu-Haydar Gastroenterology Conference Room in the Department of Internal Medicine, a state-of-the-art-conference room that will be used in the training and education of medical students and trainees to provide better patient care. In attendance were Abu-Haydar family members, faculty members, administrators, and AUBMC leadership.
Dr. Ziyad Ghazzal, Deputy VP/Dean and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, discussed the Abu-Haydar family’s history of generosity and philanthropy. “In 2004 Dr. Fadlo gave a philanthropic donation to support financial aid for medical students, and it is wonderful to see Mrs. Abu-Haydar continue this legacy,” he said. “This donation will help support the various pillars of our AUBMC 2020 Vision.”
Dr. Fadlo Abu-Haydar’s nephew, Dr. Emile Brihi, described the many traits of the late Dr. Abu-Haydar – integrity, compassion towards his patients, dedication to his students, and most importantly his passion for AUB. Brihi added that “His dedication to the young generation and his commitment to providing them with a better future led to this benevolent donation.”
Dr. Kassem Barada also commented on Dr. Abu-Haydar’s dedication to his students, and his traits as a remarkable teacher and physician.
To mark the occasion and officially inaugurate the room, the family members unveiled the dedication plaque in honor of Dr. Fadlo and Maya Abu-Haydar.
