The American University of Beirut Medical Center has marked another first in Lebanon by receiving stage 6 HIMSS Certification in both EMRAM and O-EMRAM for inpatient and outpatient services from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). This remarkable milestone places Lebanon on the HIMSS world map.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is an American not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare in quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and access through the best use of information technology and management systems. The Electronic Medical Records Adoption Models (EMRAM) and Outpatient (O-EMRAM) are eight-stage (0-7) models which measure the level of adoption and utilization of EMR functions. The models score hospitals around the world relative to their capabilities and achievements towards a near paperless environment in support of the highest available standards in patient care.
By being validated at Stage 6 in both models, AUBMC is demonstrating its commitment to improving patient safety and the overall quality of clinical care through the effective use of technology in inpatient and outpatient services.
This certification underscores the multidisciplinary synergy and partnership that was built between the Medical Center IT, Medical & Plant Engineering teams, and the community. In his closing remarks, the HIMSS surveyor expressed how impressed he was with the level of commitment and automation achieved at the Medical Center in such a short period. He praised the institution’s commitment to invest in technology to support the overall processes.
This would not have been possible without the valuable contributions of each and every member of AUBMC and mainly its physicians, nursing services, specialty clinics, pharmacy, medical engineering, plant engineering, medical records, pathology and laboratory medicine and blood bank, emergency department, radiology, H&V institute, family medicine, Quality Accreditation and Risk Management and the Department of Communications and Public Relations.
