Dr. Abdul Ghani Kibbi, professor and chairperson of the Department of Dermatology at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), has been inducted as an honorary international member of the American Dermatological Association (ADA) in a ceremony held in Washington DC during the annual meeting of ADA.
This prestigious recognition reflects Dr. Kibbi's significant contributions to the field of dermatology and his global impact on advancing dermatological research, education, and patient care. As an honorary international member, Dr. Kibbi will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading dermatologists, share his expertise, and contribute to the advancement of dermatological practices on an international scale. This induction also signifies the importance of fostering international partnerships and knowledge exchange in the field of dermatology, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
The American Dermatological Association, founded in 1876, has maintained a leadership role in advancing the field of dermatology through research, education, and advocacy. It is an independent, non-profit, and self-funded organization whose enduring mission contributed to the development of a number of dermatologic organizations including the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, and the American Board of Dermatology. Membership in the ADA is achieved through nomination and election based on meritorious contributions to the field of medicine and dermatology.
Dr. Kibbi is a graduate of the American University of Beirut (AUB) Faculty of Medicine and completed his dermatology training at the Department of Dermatology of the AUB Medical Center (AUBMC). He then completed his fellowship training in dermatopathology and laser pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital – Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.
He is an international member of the American Academy of Dermatology and two of its task forces, a member of the International Society of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatopathology, the American College of Physicians, and the Lebanese Society of Dermatology. In addition, he is an honorary member of the German Dermatological Society, honorary member of the French Society of Dermatology, and former member of the Board of Directors of the International League of Dermatological Societies.
Dr. Kibbi is a director of the International Society of Dermatology and a member of its board. He is also a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Dermatology and SkinMed and an ad hoc reviewer of several journals of the specialty. He has mentored more than 50 graduates from the residency training program at AUBMC and is fully committed to the vision and mission of the department to further enhance the specialty of dermatology across the region and worldwide.
He has more than 150 publications in the form of original contributions as well as author/co-author of several chapters in well-known and widely circulated books in the specialty of dermatology.
