On September 7, 2017, Chairperson, Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Eveline Hitti received the Dr. Cristina Costin International Emergency Medicine Award at the IXth Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress( MEMC) in Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Eveline Hitti has earned this international award for her long-standing, sustained and profound impact on international emergency medicine.
Established by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM), the award recognizes a female who has made an insightful influence on international emergency medicine and has had a tangible and measurable involvement with the MEMC and AAEM.
Dr. Eveline Hitti expressed her pleasure in receiving the award which was named after a special physician, Dr. Cristina Costin and thanked the Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, Dr. Amin Kazzi, for establishing the first Emergency Department in Lebanon. She also thanked all the team at the Emergency Department at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) for their relentless support throughout the years. “Our story at the ED is a story of local strength, the strength of a group of people who have left careers and opportunities at the United States and moved to a country that was torn by conflict and surrounded by turmoil to make a difference and move the specialty forward. This award is a tribute to all of us and to AUBMC for offering a tremendous home for emergency medicine in Lebanon,” she said.
The IXth Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress is jointly organized by AAEM, the Global Research on Acute Conditions Team (GREAT), and the Mediterranean Academy of Emergency Medicine (MAEM). The congress is committed to the global development and to the consistent support of emergency medicine pioneers and leaders around the Mediterranean basin.
