Dr. Brigitte Khoury Director Arab Regional Center for research and training in mental health
|
Vision
The Arab regional center’s vision is to be an
internationally-recognized center of excellence in the field of
research, training, capacity building and policy making in mental health
in the Arab region.
Mission
The mission of the Arab Regional Center is to conduct research related to mental health in the region, disseminate the findings of this research, and to build capacities in conducting such research by training future generations of academicians, clinicians and researchers. It will also establish a network of regional and international researchers in mental health to collaborate on projects and exchange research knowledge.
History and activities
The Arab Research Center (ARC) was established in October 2010 at the American University of Beirut, Faculty of Medicine, at the Department of Psychiatry, and is currently overlooked by Dr. Brigitte Khoury. The center ultimately aims to contribute to the reduction of the mental health treatment gap in the Arab world, particularly in the low- and middle- income countries of the
region through research and training initiatives.
The center currently is collaborating with the World Health Organization for the revision of the ICD-10 and overlooks the studies being conducted under that research from the Arab region. It has also partnered with UNFPA to provide training for health workers working with Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
The center aims to expand its activities for it to become a leader in research and training in mental health in the Arab region.
