Dr. Marc Barakat

Dr. Marc Barakat joined
the
Department of Psychiatry at the American University of Beirut Medical Center effective June 1st, 2018
as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry (Specialty: Clinical Neuropsychology).
Dr. Barakat is a certified Clinical Neuropsychologist. He holds a PhD (Research and Intervention) in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Montreal (2011), a PhD in Neuropsychology from the University of Toulouse (2004) and a diploma in Speech-Language Pathology from the Lebanese University (1999). He is also a member of the “Ordre des Psychologues du Québec” in Canada.
Prior to joining AUBMC, Dr. Barakat worked as a Clinical Neuropsychologist in a private multidisciplinary clinic in Canada and held a position of clinical supervisor in the PsyD program of Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Montreal. He also sat on the administrative board of the Association Québécoise des Neuropsychologues and was a member of the Consultative Committee for the Institut National d’Excellence en Santé et en Services Sociaux in Québec whose task was to elaborate the provincial guidelines for the assessment and follow-up of children presenting with developmental language disorder.
Dr. Marc Barakat combines a vast clinical experience in the assessment of children, adolescents and adults presenting with various cognitive and psychological disorders (attention deficit, memory disorder, learning or behavioral difficulties, etc.), and a solid background in research with a specific interest in memory and sleep.
As a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Barakat will be providing cognitive and psychological assessment services for all ages, both in inpatient and outpatient settings. He will also be involved in teaching and supervision of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology trainees and will contribute to the scholarly work of the Department of Psychiatry.
